How do I open an account?

What kind of account can I open?
We offer savings accounts as well as investments to help you grow your money.
How do I open a Motive Savvy Savings or investment account?

You can apply for all our products online through our website!

*Please note you are required to open a Savvy Savings account before opening a non-registered GIC.


Can I open an account if I file taxes outside of Canada?

You are required to reside in Canada to open a Motive account. If your primary residency is in Canada but you spend extended periods of time in other countries, please contact us at 1-877-441-2249.

 

Note, if you file taxes outside of Canada, please contact us to obtain additional required documents for your application.


I'm a Quebec resident, can I bank with Motive?
Motive currently doesn't offer products or services to Quebec residents. Existing clients who are visiting Quebec can still access their Motive accounts through online banking, debit/credit card payment, and ATM networks.
Can I open an account for my business or not-for-profit organization?
No, we currently only offer products and services for personal banking needs.

What do I need to provide?

What information do I need to apply online?
When applying online, you'll need to enter your personal details such as First and Last Name, Date of Birth, Address and Occupation. Your driver’s licence is not required to apply, but you have the option to scan it to auto-fill certain fields in this section.

Your e-mail and mobile number are required to apply.

How your Personal Information is used

How is my personal information used?
The primary purpose for our collection and use of your personal information is so that we may deliver the products and services you request, and that are suited for your needs. Please review our CWB Financial Group Privacy Statement for more information.
What is my Social Insurance Number (SIN) used for?
When applying for an account, we use your SIN to run an Equifax® deposit inquiry. When you have accounts with us, we use your SIN for income tax reporting on the interest you earn.

Debit Cards

Do I need a debit card?
No, most transactions can be done through your online account without a debit card.
Can I get a debit card?
If you would like a debit card, please contact us at 1-877-441-2249
Where can I change my debit card PIN?
You can change your PIN at Canadian Western Bank or The EXCHANGE® Network ATMs that are equipped to change debit card PINs.
What if my debit card is lost or stolen?

Please call us Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. MT at 1-877-441-2249, or for 24-hour support, call 1-866-673-3918.
